"The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it..." Psalm 24

Here at Knowle Parish Church we are committed to being more sustainable, to care for God's world through our teaching, worship and actions. We have won a Silver Eco Church award and are now working towards a Gold award. We are a Fairtrade Church. To access our monthly Eco News click here and for our Nature Trail, resources on recycling, energy, volunteering and Bible studies, please scroll down.

Stepping Stones Recycling and Gardening Project 2024

Our on-site pre-school, Stepping Stones, has a small enclosed private garden area used as a safe outdoor space for the children to play. As part of our eco efforts, the children used recycled fruit containers to plant flowers and upcycled an old pallet to display them. They also created a fun ‘water run’ to experiment with, using some old water pipes. In addition, as part of their work on balance, they have been using some old Tesco crates to do some balancing exercise.

Prayer (from Christian Aid)

Gracious God, as we look upon your hurting world, please give us the courage to act justly. Help us to speak and act for justice for our sisters and brothers facing loss and damage through changes to the climate for which they bear little responsibility. Compassionate God, come and fill our hearts with your Spirit that we too may love mercy. Empower us that we may be your hands on earth, feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked and showing your love to those facing the devastating consequences of the climate crisis.

Watch Emily's video as she shares some of our activities. Our church Environment and Climate Action group of volunteers meets regularly to organise events, share eco tips and ideas, and plan ways to be greener in our community engagement. Recent events have included a wildlife audit in our churchyard, a Green Fair and Fairtrade Wine-tasting. Our events are regularly shared on our social media channels and in the Knowle Parish Magazine.

Winter Energy Saving Tips:
Creation care is an act of discipleship; we are stewards of the earth, summoned by God to “work it and take care of it” (Genesis 2:15). Our uses of the earth and its resources must be designed to conserve and renew it rather than to deplete or destroy it.
Around 30% of all our household CO2 emissions come from heating our homes. As well as bigger projects to conserve energy, such as insulation, replacing boilers etc, there are also lots of smaller actions we can all take:

  • Turning the heating down just one degree can make a significant difference and also save around 10% on heating bills.
  • Exclude drafts from doors, windows, letterboxes and key holes is a cheap and easy win.
  • Turn radiators off in rooms you don’t use often.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

Whether you are thinking of coming to church for the first time because you are interested in exploring faith,  whether you’re new to the area and looking for a church, or whether you’re investigating baptism or marriage, you are really welcome. Our vision is to be “A house of God’s light for all peoples and generations,” and we really hope you’ll get to experience some of that light.

You’ll find we have different styles of services that reflect our diverse congregation. Click here to find out which of our services might suit you.  When you arrive you should be met by a member of our Welcome Team who will be wearing a Welcome badge. Please do make yourself known to them so that they can let you have a Welcome Pack and, if you like, can introduce you to someone to sit next to in the service.

What is there for my children?
If you are coming along with children, you might find our 9.30 Family Service most suitable.  Most weeks, the children start in the church with their accompanying adult (we really value worshipping God altogether as an inter-generational community.) After around 15 minutes, children go out to their own Sunday groups. More details of these age groups can be found on our Children and Young People page. On the first Sunday of the month, we hold either an All Age or All In service.

How do I get to know people in such a big church?
While you will get to know some people if you come to a church service, it is often at smaller gatherings which happen during the week that you will get to know people better.  Click here to read about the other groups which run during the week and here for activities that go on at the church.

How can I get involved?
Click here to read about the many ways in which you can get involved in the life of the church. Getting involved is another great way of way of getting to know people. We’d love KPC to be a church where we grow spiritually by contributing.

We hope very much that you will like what you taste and soon feel at home in our church.

Best wishes,
Geoff Lanham, Vicar
