For future generations

A message from our Vicar, Geoff Lanham

Geoff-Lanham (002)Welcome to the Future Generations project. Our Church is a beautiful 15th century Grade 1 listed building, which has been part of the village for more than 600 years. It has seen generations of people worshipping together, being baptised, married, and buried.
It is a living building, changing  over the centuries to accommodate  the ever-changing needs of the times and of the community.
We want to be a church that demonstrates the unconditional love of Jesus through the warmth and quality of our welcome, in which it is easy to feel included and to belong.
Our building should encourage and reflect this vision, but 100 years on from the last major changes, can feel tired and unfriendly.
For Future Generations is our response – a set of proposed changes reflecting our desire to fulfil our vision statement and goals, to be
A house of God’s light for all peoples and generations.

The work we are proposing is all about adapting the church building to make it better serve not only the current but also future generations. At the heart of our thinking are three things: Mission, Heritage and Renewal.

Mission: The church was built to grow God’s kingdom in and beyond Knowle. The proposed changes will ensure the building can still play its part in helping us reveal God's love and glory in a hurting world.

Heritage: Our building is over 600 years old. Conserving and enhancing that heritage will help us value the past, live well in the present and look with expectation to the future.

Renewal: God's people need constant renewal to be relevant and to reach out to others. Worship is very different now from 100 years ago. Renewing the building will help reflect that and create a more welcoming and accessible space.

An article about For Future Generations appeared in the April Parish Magazine. See it here.

On Wednesday 26th March, the PCC met and approved moving on to the next stage of the project. This will allow the architects to develop detailed plans for the project and for in depth studies of the woodwork, the flooring and other elements of the building to be carried out.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

Whether you are thinking of coming to church for the first time because you are interested in exploring faith,  whether you’re new to the area and looking for a church, or whether you’re investigating baptism or marriage, you are really welcome. Our vision is to be “A house of God’s light for all peoples and generations,” and we really hope you’ll get to experience some of that light.

You’ll find we have different styles of services that reflect our diverse congregation. Click here to find out which of our services might suit you.  When you arrive you should be met by a member of our Welcome Team who will be wearing a Welcome badge. Please do make yourself known to them so that they can let you have a Welcome Pack and, if you like, can introduce you to someone to sit next to in the service.

What is there for my children?
If you are coming along with children, you might find our 9.30 Family Service most suitable.  Most weeks, the children start in the church with their accompanying adult (we really value worshipping God altogether as an inter-generational community.) After around 15 minutes, children go out to their own Sunday groups. More details of these age groups can be found on our Children and Young People page. On the first Sunday of the month, we hold either an All Age or All In service.

How do I get to know people in such a big church?
While you will get to know some people if you come to a church service, it is often at smaller gatherings which happen during the week that you will get to know people better.  Click here to read about the other groups which run during the week and here for activities that go on at the church.

How can I get involved?
Click here to read about the many ways in which you can get involved in the life of the church. Getting involved is another great way of way of getting to know people. We’d love KPC to be a church where we grow spiritually by contributing.

We hope very much that you will like what you taste and soon feel at home in our church.

Best wishes,
Geoff Lanham, Vicar
