Mothers' Union
When Mothers' Union started back in 1876, it was to help young mothers, hence the name, but nowadays the members may be women and men, married, single or divorced, parents or not.
Branch meetings with a speaker are generally on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 2pm, in St John’s Hall. All welcome! (Scroll down for speaker information/dates)
KnitWits meets on the 4th Monday of each month at 2pm in the Guild House, to knit and chat. (Some branch members contribute to a large number of baby hats and blankets etc, which are then taken to Birmingham hospitals for premature babies.)
Card Sales - our charity cards (printed on sustainable material) help fight injustice and poverty with 100% of profits going towards the charity's work. Please contact Carol Kay to buy cards on 07742 234417 or see mueshop.org
Our Prayer meeting is on the 4th Thursday of each month at 9.30am in a member’s home.

Knowle Mothers’ Union Branch:
-
Has 79 members. We meet monthly for prayer in a member’s home and our branch meetings, are monthly in St John’s Hall, with a variety of speakers – all are welcome!
-
Supports several initiatives such as AFIA (Away From It All) holidays, for those whose circumstances are difficult, and our KnitWits group produces numerous items, many for premature babies in Birmingham hospitals.
-
Each year we collect and send gifts for two MU groups in Malawi: these go via a shipping container from the Birmingham Diocese to Malawi.
-
We also collect items for Women’s Aid, Christmas gifts for the children of prisoners and we add our voice to initiatives to reduce gender-based violence, as well as being active in Knowle Parish Church and usually offering Lent and Advent lunches to the local community.
More about Mothers' Union across the world
It works to develop communities, strengthen families and advocate for change and our members are active in 83 countries. We endeavour to be there in times of crisis – perhaps when someone finds themselves unexpectedly in hospital, or a parent goes to prison, or a baby is born prematurely. Needs vary around the world: hygiene kits, warm hats, space to talk, parenting guidance, literacy and financial education, sharing skills and help often comes from MU members, as part of their commitment to Christian family life and the upbringing of children.
